We love to celebrate birthdays in our house, especially for Apollo and Belle!
Last week was Apollo's 8th Birthday, he loves his birthday bandana. As always, to celebrate a birthday, I make my baby's favorites.
Apollo's favorites are Cider Roasted Chicken and Peanut Butter Pupcakes! (just a note, dogs are not to have onions, so even though there are onions in around the chicken, we are VERY careful the pups get none!)
Of course, Belle thought this was a wonderful idea especially since she has been sticking to her diet and is down to 79 pounds. Isn't she the most beautiful Tripawd!!!
These special treats are so easy to make. I combine all the ingredients in my KitchenAid, beat for about 2 minutes and then spoon the batter into 12 silicone muffin cups. I bake them for about 18-20 minutes, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes. I then removed them from the muffin cups and let them cool completely. The recipe makes 12, but they freeze wonderfully!
To "frost" them, I crush 2 Meaty Bones in a bag with a meat mallet and then put them in my food processor to pulverize them. The first time I made these, I put the whole bones in the processor, they were WAY to hard and almost burned up my food processor. By slightly crushing them up first, it extends the life of my appliance. I spread a thin layer of peanut butter on each cake and then dipped them in the crushed bones.
I topped them with a star treat, Apollo is such a super star!
The neighbors stopped by to give Apollo a birthday hug.
We all sang Happy Birthday and Apollo DEVOURED his pupcake! Apollo, Belle and Molly had leftovers the next night as I frosted 6 and froze 6. They all thought it was a terrible idea to freeze the others.
Peanut Butter PUPcakes1 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup skim milk
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Peanut Butter to ice
2 crushed dog bones
Preheat oven to 350. Combine all ingredients, then beat for 2 minutes. Spoon batter into muffin cups, about 3/4 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool, then remove from muffin pans. When completely cool, "ice" pupcakes with peanut butter, dip in crushed dog bones and top with a treat.
These can also be made into mini pupcakes. They will make about 3 dozen mini and baking time is about 12 minutes.
